Pelosi claims she was ‘set up’ by salon where she was filmed maskless

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claims she was “set up” when she visited a salon and was captured on video without a face mask.

Pelosi was in San Francisco when she visited a salon to have a hair appointment.

In footage aired by Fox News, which was leaked by the salon owner, Pelosi is seen walking through the salon with wet hair with her face mask around her neck.

But in a press conference, she told reporters she trusted the hairdresser who told her she would be able to come in – despite the salon owner saying restrictions have prevented the salon from reopening properly.

Pelosi said: “I take responsibility for trusting the word of a neighbourhood salon that I’ve been to over the years many times.

“When they said, we’re able to accommodate one person at a time, and we can set it up at that time, I trusted that.

“As it turns out, it was a setup. So I take responsibility for falling for a set up.”

She added later on: “I think the salon owes me an apology”, and addressing the reason she didn’t wear a mask, she said: “I’d just had my hair washed. I don’t wear a face mask when washing my hair. Do you?

“I always have a mask. For me, for the people I’m encountering, but also for my family. But I don’t wear it when getting my hair washed.”

California’s guidelines on salons vary depending on the town or city, but currently officials in San Francisco are not allowing indoor salons to reopen.

Salon owner Erica Kious told Fox News she was informed by a hairdresser, who rents a chair at her salon, that Pelosi’s assistant had approached her for an appointment.

She said: “I was like, ‘are you kidding me right now? Do I let this happen? What do I do?’

“It was a slap in the face that she went in, you know, that she feels that she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in, and I can’t work.

“We’re supposed to look up to this woman, right? It is just disturbing.”

Donald Trump weighed into the debate, saying his administration would “send Nancy packing”.

He tweeted: “Crazy Nancy Pelosi is being decimated for having a beauty parlor opened, when all others are closed, and for not wearing a Mask – despite constantly lecturing everyone else. We will almost certainly take back the House, and send Nancy packing!”
